Friendly Feelings Forest Emotions Card Set

The Friendly Feelings Therapeutic Card Set can be used to enhance children's understanding of their positive emotions, whereas the Heavy Heart Hill focuses on more challenging emotions.

Both card sets enable children to explore their different feelings and to represent them in an imaginative, visual way.

This could start with some Playdough, sand or material to represent the forest/hill. You could ask the child to think about their feelings generally or a specific scenario. If the child was thinking about home perhaps, then they could identify the particular feelings they associate with that. i.e. loved, happy, judged or isolated - and they could place these cards in their Playdough base for their forest/hill. They could rate how strong each individual feeling is out of 5 and place the same number of cards into the forest or hill. This becomes a very visual representation of a scene populated with their strongest feelings. The child can revisit the same scenario after a period of time to see if anything has changed. They could introduce other toys into their forest/hill, i.e. things that represent paths out (solutions) or key people.

The Forest/Hill Card Sets can be used with children by parents and professionals alike. It is a great resource to facilitate conversations about the child's life and also for reviewing progress over a period of time. These Emotions Card Sets are great tools during assessment, intervention and review processes;  it can be a powerful thing to witness the visual changes in the forest/hill, through positive and negative emotion additions and omissions over the period you are monitoring. They can be used independently but obviously richer detail can be generated when the positive and challenging feelings are considered alongside each other.
